Beware; Yakima Police Name 3 Top Red Light Crash Intersections

Apr 01, 2024

Speed and red light emphasis patrols continue in the cities of Yakima and Union Gap to slow drivers and save lives. The campaign started in the fall of 2021 after more than 12 fatality crashes were reported within Yakima city limits.

The department had cancelled the traffic program but it was revived after citizen complaints about erratic driving in Yakima. But despite the ongoing patrols the problems persist. In fact Yakima Police say 24 drivers over the last two weeks have been involved in crashes in the city of Yakima because they failed to stop for a red light. While Speed patrols continue in the city especially near intersections where a majority of crashes are happening Police say drivers are still ignoring red lights.

Police say they know they could possibly make an impact on the crashes by placing an officer near the problem intersections but there's not enough officers on the force to make that happen.

So in the meantime police are asking drivers to be careful when near at at the three intersections in the city that have seen a majority of crashes over the last 6 mohths.The intersections in the city of Yakima are located at;

Nob Hll and South Fair Avenue. Nob Hill and I-82 westside ramps. Yakima Avenue and I-82 westside ramps.

Police say numerous crashes have been reported in intersections over the last 6 months. Police say all the crashes have been the result of drivers not stopping for a red light.
